
Port Orchard's identity is anchored in its connections to the past. Originally a booming lumber town called Sidney, Port Orchard became Kitsap County's first incorporated city in 1890. It is home to the center of government for Kitsap County.
Port Orchard is located on the Sinclair Inlet of Puget Sound. The numerous marinas provide harbor for boating visitors, and accomodations in town cater to land lubbers.
The downtown district offers a variety of shopping including antiques, gifts and crafts, and a variety of dining options. Several museums offer a glimpse into the past. The large public marina, with a boardwalk and covered gazebo, beach access and is the site of the summer outdoors Farmers' Market.
